MCI nod for govt medical colleges
There is good news for medical seat aspirants in the state. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has permitted all the 10 government-run medical colleges in the state to accept students, with the rider that the colleges have to improve their infrastructure within a stipulated time.
This year, MCI has already given permission to the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS), Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) and Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) to admit students. The four colleges have been allowed to admit 100 students.
Till now, these colleges got permission from the MCI only at the last minute and after two to three inspections, depriving meritorious students an opportunity to pursue medicine, a source in the medical education department said.
“We were earlier forced to conduct counseling for these seats along with engineering counseling, which happens after choosing students for medical seats.
The delay frustrated meritorious students. This year, these seats will be included in the first round of counseling itself,” said a senior officer at the medical education department.
