Metro promises to be more commuter-friendly
With Namma Metro completing one year of successful operations on October 20, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) has chalked out plans to make the Metro service more commuter-friendly.
One such initiative is training the Metro staff at stations in sign language which will make communication easier for Metro passengers who are differently-abled.
“We are training our people in sign language so that communicating with differently-abled people does not become a barrier. People working on Namma Metro are from different countries and hence communication will become easier if our staff is familiar with sign language,” said managing director of BMRCL, N. Sivasailam.
Namma Metro is also in talks with BBMP to provide toilets at strategic locations along the Metro corridor. Metro officials feel that provision of public toilets is an important area which needs immediate attention and it has to be done by the civic agency.
The Metro authorities are also planning more amenities and provisions for passengers.
Metro may run 24/7 with the launch of 42.3 km of Phase-1, Metro authorities are planning to operate services day and night. The Metro service on Reach-1 closes at 10 pm.
Though there is a demand for the service beyond 10 pm, officials say that the ridership decreases drastically after 9 pm. Therefore, they don’t intend to operate Metro on a small stretch beyond 10 pm.
