Ministers vie for Revenue

The Finance Bill may have sailed through the house without a hitch but if Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar believes he can breathe easy, he should think again. Disgruntled ministers are gearing up to take on an essentially weak chief minister and the party leadership on their promised reshuffle of the cabinet after the conclusion of the legislative session. Ministers identified with the camp of former chief minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda — Govind Karjol, Balachandra Jarkiholi, Anand Asnotikar, B.N. Bachhe Gowda and Varthur Prakash — are flexing their muscles.

Central leaders had asked both the deputy chief ministers, K.S. Eshwarappa and R. Ashok to hold on to only one portfolio instead of the two they currently hold. Deputy chief minister K.S.Eshwarappa however is willing to give up Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, and has refused to divest himself of Revenue. Mr Ashok, holding transport and home, is willing to give up home but wants Bengaluru Development which is with CM. Govind Karjol, who handles minor irrigation, Kannada and culture wants either PWD or Major Irrigation, held by ministers loyal to former Chief Minister B.S.Yeddyurappa. Mr Karjol says he wants revenue.
