The net can break hearts, kill love

In a story that reflects the perils of internet dating, police investigating the case of the suicide of 25-year-old HP techie, Sreerag, found dead inside his car on Tuesday morning over a broken love affair, have found that the so-called love of his life was in fact bogus.

Police zeroed in on a 24-year-old identified as Gayatri, a resident of Aakash Nagar in Mahadevpura, working for a private housing loan company who befriended Sreerag, posed as Jennifer, posted pictures of her good looking friend instead of her own, and cooked up an engagement with David from the UK, to break off the relationship, which triggered the bizarre suicide.

Police say the woman created a false id of an MBA graduate working for IBM when in fact she had only finished school. The Mahadevapura police have taken Gayatri into custody and are investigating.
