Netra begged her brothers for mercy
Preliminary investigation into the suspected honour killing of a couple in Gokak on Tuesday has brought to light some chilling facts that led the brothers of the deceased girl Netra to carry out the barbarious act.
Netra (20) had fallen at the feet of both her brothers requesting them not to kill them when they entered their house at Guruvarpet early on Tuesday. Without considering her appeal, both her brothers asked her to carry her seven-year-old daughter to the other room and later hacked the couple to death.
When Netra, who hailed from a rich Maratha family of Gokak, fell in love with Vithal Kuri while studying her II PUC in 2011. Her brothers Vithal Bagai and Yemanappa Bagai had threatened Vittal Kuri to stay away from Netra. However, Netra and Vittal eloped the same year. Soon after, the couple got their marriage registered. Netra’s brothers had filed a police complaint and also locked the house of Vittal where the latter was staying with his parents and brothers. Fearing the worse, Vittal’s family shifted to Lolsur, a nearby village. The couple's refusal to leave Gokak led the brothers to hatch plans for their murder, said the police.
