Nine injured as two cars crash on Kanakapura Rd
Nine people, including three women, sustained severe injuries after the car in which they were travelling collided head-on with another car near Kaggalipura lake on Kanakapura Road in Thalaghattapura police limits on the outskirts of the city on Sunday evening. The injured have been identified as Puttamma, Umesh, Chennamma, Ganesh, Siddu and Jayamma. The car was being driven by Umesh and all the occupants are natives of Sathanur and Santhe Gollahalli villages in Kanakapura, and neighbours in Govindashetty Palya near Electronics City. The identities of the other three injured was not known.
Puttamma and Umesh have reportedly sustained severe head injuries and their condition is said to be critical while the others are recovering. They are being treated at Sai Ram Hospital. The other three injured, who identities are yet to ascertained, are being treated at a private hospital.
Police said the accident occurred between a Maruti Swift car heading towards Kanakapura and a Tata Indica car, which was coming towards the city. Both cars were negotiating a steep curve near the lake when they collided head-on around 7.30 pm. Over 200 residents of nearby villages arrived at scene on learning about the accident and police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd. The accident blocked traffic movement for almost one hour. Police have registered a case, but it is yet to be ascertained who caused the accident. Further investigations are on.
