Not quitting BJP, says BSY
Scoffing at rumours that he was planning to quit the BJP, former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday clarified that he has never thought of leaving the party. “I will remain loyal to the BJP and work towards strengthening the party at the grassroots level,” he said.
He dubbed reports of his joining the Congress as mere speculation. Lauding the government’s efforts to tackle drought in the state, he said more effective measures would be taken to solve the problems of rural people based on the report submitted by him and group of ministers. “The question of quitting the BJP does not arise at all, as I have been a loyal worker of the party for several decades. I am not joining the Congress as reported in the media. I will try and induct leaders from other political parties into the BJP.”
The government has taken up drought relief works on a war footing and the opposition should extend its cooperation instead of finding fault with it, he said. Urging the central government to release Rs 400 crore for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to take up drought relief measures, Mr Yeddyurappa said the Congress leaders and MPs from the state should pressure the Centre for early release of funds. He also made a fervent appeal to the striking PUC lecturers to start the valuation of answer scripts immediately. He suggested that the matter could be resolved amicably by holding talks with the concerned authorities.
