The operation against Naxalites will be intensified as they did not take up the amnesty offer by the government during a week-long unilateral ceasefire by the state, said Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar here on Sunday.

Addressing police officers on the Police Commemoration Day, Shettar said all-out efforts will be made to eliminate the Naxal menace from the state.

The appointment of in-charge DGP Lalrokhuma Pachau will be regularised soon. The process of streamlining the appointment of DGP has been finalised, he said.

Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister R. Ashok announced that a Police Canteen, on the lines of Defense Canteen, will be set up. But, he said, the proposal is yet to be discussed with the Finance Department.

“The police work at odd hours and without breaks. The proposal to set up the canteen is to help them get household grocery and other products at subsidised prices. The proposal will be placed before the Finance Department,” he said.
