PIL against star hotel near Bengaluru airport
A vacation bench of the Karnataka High Court on Friday ordered notices to the Ministry of civil aviation, chairman of the Airports Authority of India and Chief Executive Officer, of Bangalore International Airport Ltd following a PIL seeking action against the proposed construction of a star hotel, which is coming up half-a-kilometre from the airport.
Advocate G.R. Mohan has questioned the hotel, alleging that it threatened the airport’s safety. “The hotel will compromise the safety of the aerodrome as it is being used by VVIPs and dignitaries. The hotel can be used by anybody who can target these personalities,” the petitioner stated.
The short distance from the air terminal is in violation of the provisions of the Aircraft Act, Mr Mohan argued.
HC gives nod to Mysore mayor polls
The high court on Friday gave the go-ahead for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections in Mysore, scheduled to be held on April 30. But it made clear that the election results would be subject to the result of the writ petitions pending before the court.
The court passed the orders while hearing a petition filed by corporator Ravindrakumar seeking reservation for ST candidate for the two posts. He challenged the government action reserving the Mayor’s post for SC (Woman) candidate.
The tenure of the incumbent, Pushpalatha Chikkanna, and Deputy Mayor, M.J. Ravikumar, will end on April 29 and election is scheduled for April 30.
