Politician’s kids, staff involved in fake marks card scandal
The fake marks card scandal in Kuvempu University has taken another major turn with the investigation revealing the alleged involvement of children of influential politicians and officials of the university in the scam. The Bhadravati police had conducted raids on houses of the university staff members at Shankaraghatta, B.R. Project, Tarikere and Lakkavalli and unearthed the fake marks card racket in mid-May.
The police had recovered more than 2,000 answer scripts during their first raid on the house of university attender Devaraj. Based on information collected from him, police raided the houses of some other staff members. Senior police officials confirmed that some children of influential politicians from Shimoga and Chikmagalur districts are studying in the university. Among them, a few are said to be involved in the racket and their identities would be revealed in due course, they said. Police have also unearthed the involvement of the children of some university officials in the scam. Meanwhile, the identities of the 246 students involved in the fake answer scripts scandal, have been established and the university has decided to take disciplinary action against them. Of the 2,000 answer scripts recovered during the raids, decoding of 261 answer scripts was in progress. Of them, 245 pertained to English students and one was of a BBM student.
The registrar (evaluation) of the university said that 15 answer scripts had unauthorised registration numbers. He said strict action will be taken against the students involved in the racket.
