Protest sensibly, don’t attract SC ire: Gowda
JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda requested Cauvery protestors to scale down the agitation and stop passing derogatory remarks and mock Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Tamil Nadu CM J. Jayalalithaa. “Abusing Ms Jayalalithaa will not serve our purpose. In fact, such protests can be used by the TN government to challenge Karnataka in the court. Our protests should be peaceful,” Mr. Gowda told reporters in Mysore.
He said it’s not wise to attract the wrath of court. “We should respect judiciary. Disrespecting judiciary would make things worse and will be difficult for Karnataka to defend itself in the apex court.” Mr. Gowda said Karnataka should present its distress situation effectively before the apex court. “Our struggle should be through the due process of law. The TN government is dealing with the issue shrewdly and we must also be sensible in our approach.” Already, senior counsel Fali S. Nariman has expressed disappointment over the decision of chief minister Jagadish Shettar to defy the Cauvery River Authority’s (CRA) decision to release 9,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu.
