Rains raise KRS inflow
The inflow into Krishnarajasagar (KRS) dam has increased following heavy rains at Kodagu and Mysore since Wednesday morning. The rains are likely to continue till Saturday afternoon, meteorological experts said.
The Met station at Kodagu has recorded an average rainfall of 21.7mm while the Organic Farming and Technical Research Station at Naganahalli in Mysore has recorded 14.6mm rain since Wednesday morning.
The inflow at KRS has increased from 1,989 cusecs on Sunday to 4,753 cusecs on Thursday evening. The water level at KRS on Thursday evening was 106.62 feet as against its capacity of 124.80 feet and the outflow was 3,146 cusecs with 2,160 cusecs going to canals and 986 cusecs into the river leading to Tamil Nadu.
The inflow at Harangi dam too has increased from 196 cusecs on Sunday to 1,200 cusecs on Thursday. The water level at Harangi on Thursday evening was 2839.04 feet as against its capacity of 2,859 feet while the outflow was 1,200 cusecs.
According to senior meteorologist, professor and head, agro meteorology, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, M.G. Rajegowda, light to moderate rainfall of 5 to 25-30 mm, accompanied by a drop in temperature and cloudy skies are likely to continue till Saturday afternoon in Mysore, Chamarajnagar and Kodagu.
He added that the rains associated with the North East Monsoon are likely to continue till November end with Mysore, Chamarajnagar, Mandya and parts of Coorg likely to receive light to moderate rainfall of 20 to 30 mm.
