In another unpleasant reminder that the city is fast turning lawless, a real estate businessman was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of Brigade Software Park near Banashankari BDA complex on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased, V. Srinivas, a resident of Tyagrajnagar, was riding his motorcycle on the busy 27th Cross around noon when an autorickshaw stopped by.

Four men, who were armed with machetes and long swords, came out of the auto and hacked at Srinivas mercilessly.

The attack was over within minutes, and they left in the same auto, as the realtor lay bleeding on the road.

An eyewitness, who runs a shop near the scene of crime, said, “We saw an autorickshaw coming and stopping suddenly before a two-wheeler.

The man on the bike was coming from the BDA complex towards Hunisemara. Four people came out of the car and attacked him with machetes and long swords.

One of them hit the bike rider on the neck and suddenly there was blood all over. He was left to bleed on the road. He was shifted to hospital only after the police arrived at the scene.”

By the time the police arrived at the spot, a huge crowd had gathered around Srinivas, but no one was willing to shift him to hospital, one of the witnesses said.

The traffic police at the signal nearby called in the ambulance. Srinivas was taken to KIMS Hospital, where he died, the police said.

Senior officers, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Pronab Mohanty and DCP, South, H.S. Revanna, visited the spot.

The police said Srinivas had a running feud over a 1.5-acre property in Anekal, and the murder could be linked to the dispute.

Srinivas was on his way to the court to attend a case when he was attacked. The police believe that the gang followed him for long before attacking him. He is survived by his wife Mathu and three-year old son.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
