Rift over, Cong in revival mode
A mollified leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Siddaramaiah, will attend the launch of a new initiative, Congressige Banni, Badalaavane Tanni, (Join Congress, bring about a change), on Sunday and set off for drought-hit areas the next day.
Sources in the party said central leaders, including Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Sonia Gandhi, and Madhusudan Mistry, All-India Congress Committee general secretary, Karnataka in-charge, on Friday summoned both Mr Siddaramaiah and Pradesh Congress committee president Dr G. Parameshwar and advised them to bury their differences.
In deference to Mr Siddaramaiah’s suggestion, the leaders agreed to suspend the new programme after its launch and asked the leaders to carve out three teams to tour drought-affected areas. While one team would be headed by Dr Parameshwar, the second would be led by Mr Siddaramaiah, and the third by his counter in the Legislative Council, C. Motamma, sources added.
The sources said Mr Siddaramaiah had originally planned to embark on the tour and skip the launch of the new initiative as a mark of protest over being ignored by Dr Parameshwar while taking crucial decisions.
