Rs 20k for PU Maths paper!

For the first time in recent years, the state Pre-University (PU) board has been forced to re-schedule the II PU final examination in Mathematics that was supposed to be held on Tuesday, following the leaking of a question paper. The exam has been rescheduled for April 3. A complaint has been lodged with the Chintamani police station. According to sources at the PU board, the first complaint of the paper leak was received from a private college in Chintamani.

"According to our information, handwritten question papers were first sold to a few students of a private college in Chintamani by some unknown persons. These students paid Rs 3,000 for the question paper. The same question paper was later circulated in parts of Kolar district, including Mulubagalu and Malur towns. Students paid up to Rs 20,000 for the paper here,” said a senior board official.

When the board heard of the leak, its officials in Kolar district were directed to scan the leaked paper and send it to headquarters. “As it matched the question paper finalised for Tuesday's exam, we decided to postpone the exam," the official said. "Three years ago, Bengaluru police had busted a gang of three who were allegedly involved in the II PUC supplementary exam question paper scam. But in that case, the miscreants didn't get the right question paper. Only a few questions tallied. But in this case, all the questions tallied," he added.

As students were not informed about the exam postponement, chaos prevailed in most exam centres in the city. Pratheek H. S. told this newspaper that the leak was unfortunate. "Mathematics is the toughest exam and if the exam was held today, I could have prepared well for rest of the exams," he said. Another student, Rashmi S. R. calls for strict action against the culprits. Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri has stated that the government will not spare the culprits. "We have formed a high level committee to find out who is responsible for the leak and from where it was leaked," he said.
