Sakala: Get served on time or else...
The state government launched its most ambitious scheme âSakalaâ which guarantees services to citizens within a stipulated time frame.
Former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the scheme on April 2 this year. The tagline of this scheme is: âIt is your right to obtain citizen-related services in timeâ.
The guarantee of services scheme is aimed at helping reduce corruption, bribe and red-tapism in government institutions.
There are 151 services across 11 government departments. Under this scheme, citizens should take obtain an acknowledgement number for their application (15-digit GSC No.).
With this number, citizens can track the status of their applications through mobile phones or online.
Sakala is a unique Act introduced by the government and brings greater accountability, transparency and efficiency in administration.
As a safeguard to ensure timely delivery of services, it ensures that defaulting officials pay compensation to the public in case of delay.
If the officer concerned or government employee fails to deliver the service within the stipulated time, the fine imposed is Rs 20 per dayâs delay up to a maximum of Rs 500.
This fine will be deducted from employeeâs salary and paid to the citizen/applicant as compensation.
