Shettar to put Hubli on track
Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar who is the minister in charge of Bengaluru city, seems to be more keen on changing the face of his hometown, Hubli, than doing anything to improve the state of affairs in the state capital.
Less than two months after taking charge as CM, Mr Shettar is going all out to bring the monorail to Hubli-Dharwad twin city and held talks with S-comi, a Malaysian company a few days ago. This company had implemented the monorail project in Mumbai and made a presentation for the CM.
Now, one more company, M-rail, has evinced interest in taking up the project and made its presentation on Friday.
Hubli-Dharwad mayor Lingaraj Patil, who was present at the meeting, told Deccan Chronicle that M-Rail had already conducted a preliminary survey in Hubli Dharwad. “The CM asked the company to submit a formal proposal in a week. Once we get proposals from both companies, the urban development department will select one,” he said.
The government has no financial commitment as far as the monorail project is concerned but will have to give its clearance. Under a public-private partnership, the state will give land for laying the tracks, Mr Patil said.
According to him, both Hubli and Dharwad will benefit from the scheme.
