Shobha rules out power crisis in summer, to buy 1,100 mw
The state government has already taken measures to ensure proper power supply during the next summer from January to May and a plan has been chalked out to generate power from hydel projects and buy about 1,100 mw power, said energy minister Shobha Karandlaje.
She told reporters on Friday that power demand has increased due to a severe drought. Power supply is being managed by providing six-hour three phase and single phase power from evening 6 pm to 6 am in the morning, the minister explained.
Power will also be generated from the hydel power projects. An agreement has been entered into with Gujarat government to buy about 700 mw power. About 400 mw power will be purchased from sugar factories in the state. The eighth unit of Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) will be available for the state grid from December this year, she said.
When B.S. Yeddyurappa took the oath as CM, he had assured an addition of 5,000 mw to the state grid in five years. Accordingly, about 4,500 mw power has been added to the state grid including 1,000 mw each from Udupi and Bellary thermal stations, she said.
