After witnessing the groundswell of support among Congress leaders and workers for senior leader Siddaramaiah, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi has reportedly assured the former deputy CM that he will intervene and resolve the crisis arising from Mr Siddaramaiah’s resignation from the post of Opposition leader in the Assembly.
Soon after an interaction with Congress MPs and MLAs here, Mr Gandhi reportedly took Mr Siddaramaiah in his car and held a one-on-one discussion with him for about five minutes. During this meeting at the helipad, it was learnt that Mr Gandhi had invited Mr Siddaramaiah to Delhi where he would personally look into the issue.
As if this was not enough, Mr Siddaramaiah’s name cropped up when party workers requested Mr Gandhi to nominate him as one of the CM candidates for the forthcoming Assembly polls in Karnataka.
When contacted, Mr Siddaramaiah confirmed to this newspaper that he had discussed his resignation with Rahul. “Mr Gandhi has asked me to remain in touch with him when I go to Delhi on Monday.” He, however, asserted that he would not withdraw his resignation. “I have decided to work as a common party worker and remain a legislator,” he added.
