Skies open up, city in darkness
After every rain, it is the same story. Following the sudden pour in the city on Saturday evening, several areas in the city were plunged into darkness. The situation in New Gurappana Palya was worse as even till Sunday evening, power supply had not been restored due to transmission failure.
“There have been several complaints of electric poles falling, power lines and transformers failing across the city since Saturday. While most of the complaints have been addressed, areas in New Gurappana Palya on Banneghetta Road were yet to get power supply as the repair work on the lines is still on,” said a Bescom official.
Following the rain several areas in the city faced outages for more than one hour and, in some places, up to three hours. The affected areas included Bhuvaneshwari Nagar, Park Road, Banashankari II Stage, Nagamma Layout, Urvashi Theatre, N.R. Colony, Indiranagar and near Sun City in Sarjapur.
The Bescom control room also received complaints of power cuts from areas such as Koramangala, Jayanagar, Bomanahalli, Electronics City, H.S.R. Layout and J.P. Nagar, apart from Annasandra Palya, Marathahalli and Kundalahalli. “Power cuts have become routine. On Saturday, all through the night, we faced power cuts of five to ten minutes duration. Besides this, there was a long outage of about one hour,” said Mr C.S. Poovanna, a resident of Indiranagar.
