SMK looks to Delhi for suitable role
Contrary to reports that he would steer the party to power in the next elections, former external affairs minister S.M. Krishna may not volunatarily make any move to gear up the cadre in the state unless the party high command defines his role.
There is a raging debate within the Congress about Mr Krishna's role in the state. In the run up to the elections, several leaders and workers clamoured to get Mr Krishna involved in the poll-preparation process. A small group led by former minister, D.K. Shivakumar had quietly decided to step up pressure on the party high command to make Mr Krishna the KPCC president after his return to the state which sent a ripple of excitement through the ranks.
Mr Krishna, however, seemed far removed from these developments. Mr Krishna, on his return to the city after resigining from the union cabinet, is reportedly reluctant to get involved in any political activity now. Highly placed sources told Deccan Chronicle that he would like a position that suits his stature in Karnataka. "Unless, he is sure of a position, he will not get involved," the sources said. Sources also said that the party top brass might adopt its usual tactic to get Mr Krishna involved in party work. "It can straightway give directions to the party's state unit to use the services of Mr Krishna for a particular work. This is also not ruled out," the sources added.
