Social networks abuzz with debate
Social networking sites are abuzz with both support and condemnation on the attack on partying young women and men at a home stay in Mangalore. Interestingly, within hours after the attack a FaceBook page for Hindu Jagaran Vedike, Puttur, was created.
Supporting the attack, a FaceBook user, Manoj Rai B., commented, “Whenever dharma declines, O Bharat (Arjun), and the purpose of life is forgotten, I will manifest myself. I am born in every age (yugas) to protect the good, to destroy the evil and re-establish dharma.....now our mangalore boys new avatar of arjun's.” However, there has been a widespread outrage among people. Royston Rohan Mascarenhas commented on FB, “All those morons here saying “Jay Hindus” and “vande mataram” for such issues., you sound like nazis. Every citizen has his rights and RSS or any other organization for that matter cannot violate it. If they are really such patriots let them do something good for the country”.
A young FB user commented on her page, “Another shameful incident in Mangalore where a group of boys and girls were slapped, beaten up by because these youngsters were in a rave party. One of the group's 'activists' was also seen feeling up a girl in the process. I am no one to argue on whether the group of youngsters are right or wrong in doing whatever they were doing. I am not here to defend them. But I will defend their right to dignity. None of us, neither me, nor any of those molesters in the disguise of activists have the bloody right to hit anyone and act like saviours of Indian 'culture.'
On Twitter, musician Raghu Dixit said, “I am appalled reading news about the Mangalore attacks just now. The rogues have raised their heads again.”
