Speaker turns emotional
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, K G Bopaiah, was moved to tears when former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa walked into his office in Vidhana Soudha to hand over his resignation letter on Friday.
Sources said Mr Bopaiah was very emotional while accepting the resignation letter of Mr Yeddyurappa. The former chief minister arrived an hour and 20 minutes behind his scheduled appointment with Mr Bopaiah along with supporters, including two Members of Parliament, five MLAs and four MLCs. The meeting with the Speaker, however, lasted less than 10 minutes.
Speaking to media persons later, Mr Bopaiah said “I have accepted his resignation and forwarded the same to the Election Commission. As a matter of procedure, I asked him if he needed some time to reconsider his resignation. I also queried if he had resigned under pressure from any quarters or was dong it out of his own free will. He submitted the letter and asked me to accept it.” Mr Bopaiah, however, was noncommittal when asked about his emotional moments with Mr Yeddyurappa.
