Sree claims support of Suttur seer
B. Sreeramulu, MLA and founder of the BSR Congress Party, has claimed the support of powerful Lingayat seer Shivaratri Deshakendra Swamiji of Suttur Math. Mr Sreeramulu spoke to the Lingayat seer for nearly an hour behind closed doors. The meeting has raised a lot of eyebrows. Mr Sreeramulu is only the second prominent political leader, after former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, to have contacted the seer after a long hiatus.
After the meeting, Mr Sreeramulu told reporters that he got the blessings of the seer, but didn’t reveal the details of the discussion he had with the pontiff. Mr Sreeramulu also visited the Chamundeshwari temple on top of Chamundi Hills and offered a special puja. Meanwhile, his Swabhimani Sankalpa Yatra, which was to be held in Mysore on Saturday, was called off abruptly due to lack of people’s support. Seating arrangements had been made for 10,000 people, but hardly 500 were mobilised. But BSR Party representatives claimed that their yatra had to skip Mysore because of its tight schedule. Mr Sreeramulu visited the Nanjangud temple before entering Chamarajanagara district where he addressed a public meeting.
