Sump on road stumps all
The city has learnt no lessons from the numerous past incidences. A day after a four-year-old drowned in an open sump, Deccan Chronicle found another such a threat bang in the middle of a road. On BDA 80 feet Road off Bannerghatta Road, a 2x2 sq ft and about 8-10 ft deep sump has been left open. There are no barricades or signages around the sump. There are no streetlights and the two small stones kept to warn motorists of the danger can be easily missed at night. The road, parallel to the NICE Road, connects to Electronic City and sees considerable traffic through the day.
“Thankfully, no major accidents have happened so far. But, quite a few incidents have occurred when two-wheeler riders have lost balance as they notice the sump when they are very close to it and just about miss riding right into the sump,” said R. Shiva Kumar, a resident of Akshayanagar, a newly formed layout adjacent to the Road. “The sump is difficult to notice even during the day as there are no barricades that warn one before hand. Somebody walking on this road at night is at God’s mercy,” said Sunanda, a software engineer from Hulimavu, who takes this road every day to reach her office on Hosur Road.
