Tech city gets busy on Twitter
With nowhere to go, Bengalureans were found tweeting away as the bandh brought the entire city to a standstill on a Saturday. With cable operators blacking out all entertainment channels, the twitterati were lamenting this. One person tweeted, “'Tata sky, airtel, dishtv users, are u able to watch anything on tv except news''! There were also tweets making fun of news channels. "Silly Bangalore Cable fellows. They claim they are blocking all entertainment programs. And then they go show the news channels."
While many were found enquring about the bandh, there some who were happy about the fact that the roads were empty. “I hear no sound of vehicles on the roads today. It’s indeed a lovely peaceful day”, a person tweeted. There were also some who called on others to come out on to Twitter and have fun. “All the people in #Bangalore who are stuck indoors this weekend thanks to the #Bandh..I feel your pain. Let's make the most of Twitter today!,'' a post said. Even though the bandh was mostly peaceful, in some areas, protesters burned tyres, which put some to discomfort. A tweet on this noted, “Smells of burnt tyres. Why do they just burn tyres if they all they want is Kaveri water?" The evening showers were much welcome."Oh Bangalore rains. You wash away the discomfort the bandh brought on us," another tweet said.
