Techie harasses girl for four years, arrested
A 26-year-old software engineer was arrested for allegedly harassing his former collegemate continuously for over four years.
The perpetrator, Keshav Murthy G., a software analyst with Dell, Domlur branch, started stalking the girl after she rejected his proposal for marriage in 2008.
The two were studying in the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering at K.R. Circle in 2007. They were neighbours in Kolar and travelled in the same bus to the college in Bengaluru.
Once the relationship went sour, he started posting lewd messages on her social networking pages and email accounts. He also sent lewd messages on her mobile phone.
In April 2011, another of his victim’s parents filed a complaint against Murthy at the J.P. Nagar police. The police picked up Murthy, but released him after a warning.
The family of the collegemate had filed a similar complaint with the Mulbagal police earlier. The police here too warned Murthy and let him off. After the two police complaints, Murthy’s harassment only increased, the KR Puram police said.
He had created fake FaceBook and Gmail accounts in the girl’s name and sent her morphed nude photos to all her contacts, including her sister and brother-in-law. The girl’s friends alerted the girl when they received the mails, the police said.
Frustrated by the unending harassment, the girl’s parents again filed a complaint with the KR Puram police in June. On learning about the complaint, Murthy absconded nearly a fortnight. He was arrested in his room in A. Narayanapura on Saturday morning.
Murthy’s father has passed away and his mother stays in Kolar. The accused has two sisters and both are married. His brother-in-law Lakshmaiah, who works as an assistant director with the Social Welfare Department in Kolar, has been informed about the arrest, the police said.
