Techie runs over pedestrian, caught
In a swift operation, the Kumara Swamy Layout traffic police arrested a software engineer who had escaped in his car after mowing down a pedestrian. The software engineer, Rohan (28), a resident of Mantri Tranquil apartment in Gubbalala, was driving back home in a Ford Fiesta car, bearing the registration number KA-05-MD-9054, when he hit a pedestrian, Basavaraju (31). Rohan, an employee with a software firm on MG Road, was found to be under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place.
Rohan and his friend Sahani, both native of Madhya Pradesh, had gone to Meenakshi Mall on Bannerghatta Road on Sunday evening. While coming back from the mall, Rohan lost control and hit Basavaraju near Doddakalasandra on Kanakapura Road around 10.30 pm. Basavaraju, a driver who lived in Gubbalala, died on the spot. Finding the victim on the verge of death, Rohan and Sahani shifted his limp body to the side of the road and fled, the Kumara Swamy police said.
Krishnappa and his friend, who saw the accident, gave a chase to the killer car till Mantri Tranquil Apartments. But security men barred their entry into the apartment complex. Krishnappa called the police, who saw broken glass pieces of the car’s left side headlight and indicator. They then reached Mantri Tranquil Apartments and arrested the duo.
