Techie’s fictitious net lover gets bail

The fictitious internet lover who was allegedly responsible for the death of 25-year-old Sreerag S., a Hewlett Packard employee who committed suicide in a bizarre manner, has been given bail. The 23-year-old Gayatri alias Jennifer alias Jenny Kutty obtained bail from a lower court here on Wednesday.

Additional Commissioner of Police T. Suneel Kumar said Gayatri will be released from the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail after the bail order reaches the prison officials.

“Two days prior to Sreerag’s suicide, Gayatri made her friend Tina pose as her mother and speak to Sreerag. Tina told him that Gayatri’s wedding had been fixed to David, another fictitious character, in the UK and he should end the relationship.

"But Tina does not have any role in the suicide. Gayatri also does not know the man in the photo, who was supposed to be David. She had downloaded the photo from the internet and sent it to him,” Mr Kumar said.

Sreerag committed suicide on May 22. Sreerag drove his car to a remote place, drank water laced with sleeping pills, tied his hands and legs with a duct tape, stuffed his mouth with cotton and taped his mouth, and pulled four plastic carry bags over his head.

The police arrested Gayatri, for impersonation and abetment to suicide. She was working as a team leader for Ascon Sales and Service.

Gayatri came in contact with Sreerag while working with a private housing loan company. The two first spoke in January when Gayatri had called Sreerag to ask whether he was interested in a loan. After some calls, the two became friendly and fell in love.

The two had never met and Sreerag, upset that her wedding had been fixed to another man, committed suicide.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
