Thousands march to salute martyrs

Families of 79 martyrs, who laid down their lives during the Kargil war, were felicitated at the National Military Memorial on Vijay Diwas on Thursday. Former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde flagged off a walkathon, organised by the Flags of Honour Foundation in memory of the martyrs and to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas. The walkathon was attended by socialites and sportspersons. Member of Parliament Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Arjuna award winner Reeth Abraham, several ex-servicemen, NCC cadets and citizens took part in the 2.5 km walk that commenced at MG statue and passed through Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, Raj Bhavan road before reaching the National Military Memorial on Chowdaiah Road. Later at an event organised by the Flags of Honour at the National Military Memorial, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar felicitated 79 war widows of martyrs from Kargil War.
