A deputy director of the Women and Child Welfare Department at Tumkur has been charged with sexually assaulting a 40-year-old widow who runs a school for the physically handicapped in Tumkur. Police have identified the accused as Radha Krishna (56). The victim, a resident of Mahalakshmipuram near Basavadi in Tumkur, has a daughter and a son.
The woman, in her statement to the police, claimed she was running the ‘Spandana School’ for almost a decade now with nearly 100 physically challenged students. There are five teachers presently working in the school and she had requested the department to sanction a grant of `1.70 lakh to run the school. The deputy director had promised her to get the grants from the government and had been asking her to accompany him to various places. On April 12, the accused allegedly took her to Narayana Comforts, a lodge near Kogilu Cross in Yelahanka, and allegedly raped her. After repeatedly assaulting her, he threatened her that he would kill her if she told anyone about it.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East division) Dr G. Ramesh said, “The accused Radha Krishna was taken into custody by Yelahanka police on Saturday. We are questioning him and will take his version. The victim was sent to Ambedkar Medical College for medical examination. We are sure that both of them have checked into the hotel on April 12. But, we have to investigate. We cannot be sure that her statement is completely true”.
