Trickster thrashed, handed to cops
A man, who was posing as a Central Crime Branch (CCB) official, was caught by the public after he allegedly conned a beautician to the tune of Rs 4.8 lakh. The accused, identified as Guruswamy (34), a resident of Laggere, was spotted in Papareddypalya on Friday night. He was surrounded by the locals when he tried to flee, was beaten black and blue and later handed over to the police.
Guruswamy, who is married person, is unemployed and was finding it difficult to manage to make a living. He came in contact with Asha, who owns a beauty parlour at Papareddypalya and introduced himself as a police officer attached to the Central Crime Branch, police said. Guruswamy claimed that BDA had allotted him a site in the city and was finding it difficult to pay up for it as he was short of money. He requested Asha to lend him money so that he could buy the site and promised her that he would register the site in her name. Believing him, Asha handed him the money.
Asha’s husband Krishna Murthy was addicted to alcohol. The accused had told her that he would help her husband get rehabilitated claiming that he knew some experts treating alcoholics. He even collected money from her for the treatment, police said. Asha grew suspicious when he kept postponing the repayment and would make contradictory statements. It was then that she realized that she had been duped. On Friday night, when she noticed him in her locality, she alerted her neighbours and rushed out to catch him. Guruswamy tried to flee when he noticed the locals following him, but they managed to catch him. However, Asha had not filed any cheating complaint against Guruswamy. “We have arrested him and sent him for medical test”, Jnanabharathi police said.
