Week later, terror suspects meet kin
Suspects, arrested for the Bengaluru-Hubli terror plot, met their relatives on Wednesday, nearly a week after they were taken into custody while some were allowed to speak to their families on the telephone.
Family members of two of the accused were permitted to meet them at an undisclosed location near Madiwala. The families of the accused had requested police to give them permission to meet their sons and Police commissioner B.G. Jyothiprakash Mirji had acquiesced.
For the families of journalist Matiur-Rehman Siddiqui and DRDO scientist Ajaz Ahmed Mirza and his brother Shoaib Mirza however, the day was disappointing as they were only allowed to speak on the phone. “He sounded strong, he said he is innocent. We spoke for two minutes, but that has given us hope we will be able to see him. We hope the investigation is handled in a transparent manner", said Ataur-Rahman, Matiur’s brother. In Hubli, CCB sleuths, in a pre-dawn raid searched the home of Dr Zafar Solapur, in a bid to find his passport, which the accused said he had lost.
