‘Yasin Bhatkal behind attacks’

The recently arrested suspect Indian Mujahideen member Kamal Hassan alias Bilal alias Billu alias Kalu, reportedly involved in the 2009 Chinnaswamy Stadium blast, has allegedly told the police that he last met his mentor and IM leader – Mohammed Zarar Sidibapa alias Yasin Bhatkal in Delhi three months ago.

Yasin is reportedly involved in all the recent major terrorist attacks in the country, including the 2010 German Bakery terror attack in Pune and 13/7 terror strike in Mumbai last year. According to sources, Kamal (24), a native of Balha village of Madhubani district, Bihar, who was arrested on April 10 from Kolkata by the Central Crime Branch, Bangaluru for his alleged involvement in the stadium blast during an IPL match told the police and the Intelligence Bureau that he has been in touch with Yasin and last met him in January this year at the New Delhi railway station. Kamal is being interrogated by the IB, CCB and a team of Delhi police, which arrived last weekend.

“He told us that Yasin has been extensively travelling the country to recruit small groups to give him logistic support and indulge in supply of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) and stray terrorist activities in the country,” said an Intelligence Department officer. The Bihar module, reportedly behind the Chinnaswamy Stadium blasts, comprising Mohammed Qateel Siddiqui (27) and Farooq (33) from Darbangha district in Bihar, Gayur Ahmed Jamali (21), Gauhar Aziz Khomeni (28) Tariq (31) and Kamal was one such module of the proscribed terrorist outfit. All the six have been arrested and are in police custody. According to information with the intelligence agencies, Yasin has overtaken the IM leadership from the fugitive brothers – Riyaz and Iqbal Shahbandari alias Bhatkal – and executing terrorist attacks in India.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
