Youth fined Rs 7 lakh for cheating girl
The HC on Thursday came to the rescue of a woman, who was cheated by her lover, by imposing a fine on the youth and the police. The court has imposed a fine of Rs 7 lakh on Ananda, who cheated the woman by promising to marry her and then married another woman. The episode came to light in November 2009 when the victim barged into the wedding hall and lodged a complaint alleging rape and other charges.
Justice Sen warned the youth, “If you open your mouth even a bit to speak against the girl, you will be sent behind bars for five years. You are the worst specimen who spoiled the life of this girl”, he remarked and disposed of the case.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on two sub-inspectors of Nandini Layout police station, for not acting upon the complaint of the victim to stop the marriage. The bench directed the police and the youth to deposit the money with the high court registry and said half of it would be used to help her complete her education and the other half would be given to her.
