‘I’ll pay back people’s love’
Q The promos of Ra.One are out. How would you describe the response?
I’m really happy that people have liked the promo. It is just 25 seconds long, but I hope that I can deliver a two-and-a-half hour film that turns out to be as good as the promo. I had promised my kids and for everyone in India, who have given me more than what I deserve that I will pay back all their love. It is an indigenously made, VFX-loaded film; it’s produced in the VFX studios of India.
Q Why have you released the promos six months before the date of release of the film?
My character G.One, is the superhero while Ra.One is the super villain. In India, we have no comic book superhero images that we can relate to; we have had only Krrish and Drona who are film superheroes.
Our audience has no idea if my character is going to fly or the kind of clothes he will wear. Once they know him better and recognise that he has superpowers, their curiosity will be aroused. I hope this marketing strategy works.
Q It’s an expensive film. Are you confident that the movie will recover its money?
I have worked too long to worry about how money comes through films. I hope I’m given an opportunity to make another film — bigger, better, faster.
Q Are you looking at film offers from the West?
I am 46 now…I don’t know how long I’ll be able to wait for offers from the West. On a more serious note, I don’t have the confidence that I am a good enough actor to take on the world. I have been offered a few international roles but nothing substantial. Hugh Jackman has said that he would give me a part in the next X-Men film, which I’ll surely do. I truly believe that I should do what I want to do. I want to make that one film the world will remember me for. The West does make films with Jackie Chan and Ang Lee so there will be time when we will also be recognised there.
