‘I am happy with my success’

Having celebrated his forty-sixth birthday, a genial and contented Aamir Khan expounds on his life and films.

Q Did you work on your birthday this year?
Since I have begun shooting for Reema (Kagti), I have not been spending time with my family for the last couple of weeks. Luckily, on my birthday, I got an off. Even though I had not asked for it. I spent my day with kids, wife, my mom and my near and dear ones.

Q You are now on the wrong side of 40s. Does that scare you?
No, not really. I’m very happy with the kind of success that I have got wwith age, a lot of good things have happened to me. I think right now I’m at the peak of my career; and personally too, I am at peace.

Q What would be a good gift for the man who seems to have everything?
I wish someone gives me the title for Reema's film — that will be a good gift this year.

Q Last year, you had mentioned a few things which you wanted to achieve over the year. How successful have you been?
I had said that I will do three things — one was to learn Marathi which I did begin. I also wanted to spend some more time with my mom, which has been possible because she has now come back to stay in Mumbai, and lives in the same building. So Kiran and I are living with her, in her place. I also wanted to learn swimming and I have started that too.

Q What is the status on Dhoom 3?
We are going to start shooting in January next year and the cast is yet to be finalised. I don’t have any say in the casting. Vijay Krishna Acharya and Aditya Chopra will decide the cast.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
