‘Tashan achieved cult status’
After the debacle that was Tashan, Vijay Krishna Acharya is finally back at the helm with Dhoom 3. While speculation is rife about just why Vijay stayed away so long from the Bollywood scene, the writer-director asserts, “I was working on Raavan with Mani (Ratnam) sir, with whom I’ve previously worked on Guru. You learn so much from people like him.”
Apart from his experiences with iconic directors, Vijay is also drawing on the lessons he learnt while making Tashan to make Dhoom 3 a success. “It was the first film that I directed,” he says. “Before Tashan, I have done the Dhoom series, Pyaar Ke Side Effects and Guru, so success and failure are a part of life. Tashan was slightly tongue-in-cheek. May be if you try it in a mainstream film, you have to prepare the audience for it. All I have to say about it is that it has attained a sort of cult status.”
