Aamir raises expectations

Aamir Khan’s Talaash may be well over five months away from release but the way buzz is building around the film with every passing day, one can safely conclude that it will be worth the wait. The film, produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, has already topped a recent poll of the most awaited films this year.
Ritesh, who is very pleased with the goings on, says, “Actually, the fact that Aamir is seen very rarely makes audiences root for him even more.” The last time the star was seen in the offbeat Dhobi Ghaat; so understandably, fans are pining to see him in a full-fledged commercial role again after the blockbuster 3 Idiots, say insiders. Ritesh continues, “Since he does only one film a year, there is always a lot of curiosity and eagerness to see his work. Anything that he does creates a lot of expectations and Talaash isn’t any different. We all know that the film will be scrutinised in almost every aspect and we are prepared for that.”
“The hit pair of Kareena Kapoor and Aamir is fueling the buzz further, because everyone is also waiting to see how they manage to outshine their hit jodi of 3 Idiots,” says an industry source, adding, “Even Rani Mukherjee, who created quite an impact with her comeback film No One Killed Jessica, is generating a lot of curiosity because she will be returning to the screen after a year-and-a-half.”
But Ritesh is not one to be fazed by the weight of expectations. He says, “The coming together of such talent does lead to a lot of anticipation. But we have our strategies in place, it’s just not time yet to begin working on them.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
