Aamir, a Rs 400-cr star now?
While Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar among many others are riding high on their Rs 100 crore successes, perfectionist Aamir Khan, who is incidentally the founder of the 100-crore club, seems to have left his counterparts far behind.
The estimated profit of his next film PK, which is still in its making, is expected to be a whopping Rs 400 crore. Aamir’s last film with Raju Hirani, 3 Idiots, managed to cross Rs 300 crores at the box office. But neither he nor his director is getting weighed down by expectations. Eyewitnesses on location in Jaipur have said that Aamir and Raju were engrossed in the shoots and that the team wrapped up their first schedule of their film. Insiders have also said that the actor-director duo has been having several closed-door meetings to enhance every minute scene and dialogues in the screenplay.
Aamir’s last film Talaash which earned Rs 95 crores at the box office fell short of the 100-crore mark my a small margin. And that seems to have made him even more cautious about PK. “Aamir’s sole competition is with himself. Rs 300 crores or more — Aamir is known for raising the bar with each film,” says a source close to the film. With PK already being touted as a winner, the scenario is bound to get tougher for Aamir’s counterparts. Since the 100-crore milestone will soon be passé, the pressure on other actors will definitely mount.
Well played Aamir!
