Abhay’s a different Deol
The actors in his family may be known for their macho Punjabi image, but Abhay Deol says he consciously stayed away from the kind of roles that his cousins Sunny and Bobby made famous. “It made sense not to follow in their footsteps,” says Abhay, who will be seen in Chakravyuh, playing a Naxalite.
“I really admire them, but I wanted to do films that didn’t restrict me within a certain image.”
But isn’t Abhay apprehensive that his statement might be construed as arrogant by Sunny et al? “Not at all,” is Abhay’s rejoinder. “I was always a rebel. I always wanted to do things that were different and not run of the mill. I guess it’s quite evident in the films I’m doing.”
