Ajay-Akki share the 2012 spoils

Be prepared for an overdose of Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn this year. Between the two, they have nearly 10 films lined up for release, and over `600 crores worth of investments. While Ajay is coming off a very good year with several hits to his name, Akki’s fortunes have been somewhat subdued. But while the former will have multi-starrers like Tezz, Bol Bachchan and Son Of Sardar, Akshay too has about five films in his kitty, including Rowdy Rathore, Joker and Housefull 2 among others.
So while Ajay would want to build on his “bankable star” image, it’s quite literally a make-or-break year for Akki. “Akshay hasn’t had a hit in a long time. He would want a success quite desperately now,” a distributor says. “Ajay is a smart businessman. He has changed from comedy to action at the right time. He should ideally deliver his best again this year,” says an associate of the actor.
With Shah Rukh and Salman Khan ruling the roost in 2011, and Salman and Aamir Khan having major releases slotted for 2012, the race for the top is getting tight.
