Ajay plays a middle-aged divorcee

The genre of comedies has become a safe bet for most directors and Madhur Bhandarkar, who is known for hard hitting realistic cinema, too has been lured by it. He is all set to release his first comedy venture Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji at the beginning of the new year and says he is looking forward to the audience’s reaction. “I have been slotted as a serious director who makes only realistic cinema. I want to explore my humorous side as a director now. The audience has appreciated my earlier movies so I hope they will appreciate this one too,” says Madhur.
Madhur says he’s been inspired by the simplicity of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee’s films, He says, “Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji is a romantic comedy revolving around three men who are looking for love. Ajay Devgn is a middle-aged divorcee, Emraan Hashmi's life revolves around love and women and Omi Vaidya is an idealist looking for love. The title is apt to the story as a man is always a child at heart. The film speaks about love and the problems in the heroes’ lives.”
Omi Vaidya has already become synonymous with his role as Chatur in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots. He plays a Maharashtrian character so his voice has been moderated in the film.
Bhandarkar’s next Heroine with Kareena has been in the news for some time, but the director clarifies, “I have shelved the film because of Kareena’s non-availability of dates. Right now, my focus is on the current film. My script wasn’t complete and Kareena is busy too. So Heroine has been shelved. I may make it six years from now.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
