Akki has a Canadian connection
Akshay Kumar, who has been appointed as the Canadian Tourism Commission’s (CTC) ambassador for India, can’t stop talking about the country. The Khiladi, as his fans call him, has been visiting the country regularly since 1995 and says that the country has almost become his second home.
“Canada is my second home. I have an extremely strong connection to this country and its warm people,” says Akshay. Now that the actor has been signed by CTC to act as their brand ambassador for India, until the summer of 2012, he expects the bond to get stronger.
Akshay will be involved in a lot of familiarisation trips across Canada, which will be captured for local and Indian media in video and blog posts. Expressing his joy, he says, “I am very honoured and privileged to have been asked to represent the CTC as their ambassador for India.”
Akshay has been spending a great deal of time in the country and is supporting many local causes. In May 2008, Akshay received an honourary doctorate of law degree from the University of Windsor for his exceptional work in the film industry and his philanthropic endeavours. He also carried the Olympic torch for Canada in Toronto during the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay.
