Ali’s work has echoes of Imtiaz
After the success of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, the industry is more than ready to laud its writer-director, Ali Abbas Zafar. The newbie filmmaker already has another project with YRF in the pipeline, and just like his previous effort, this one too will be firmly rooted in Indian soil. This has prompted many industrywallahs to point out that in his sensibilities, Ali is rather like another successful director — Imtiaz Ali.
“Ali Abbas’ next is also for the pan-India audience,” says a source at YRF. “He hails from Dehradun and the films screened in small towns and cities formed his entertainment mainstay during his growing up years. That has educated his cinematic sensibilities, something he shares with Imtiaz, who hails from Jamshedpur.”
Ali says, “The multiplex business is huge today but the real fun comes from standing in a line, awaiting your turn to get hold of a ticket. That’s one of my fondest childhood memories.” We’re sure that’s another thing Imtiaz would have in common as well!
