And the race is on?
Last year, Bollywood saw Salman Khan’s Eid release Ek Tha Tiger break all box office opening records. This year however, Salman won’t be having a release during Eid. Instead his archrival Shah Rukh Khan will see the release of his film Chennai Express. Along with him Akshay Kumar’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbai 2 will also be hitting the theatres.
So now all eyes are on these superstars to see if at all they manage to break Salman’s record. And if they do, then by how much.
“Salman’s Ek Tha Tiger had collected close to `33 crores on just the day of Eid last year. Those were unheard of collections since not just the Eid record was broken, even the highest collection of a day ever scored, which was by Hrithik Roshan’s Agneepath (`22 crores) was quashed by a major margin,” informs a trade source. “Later, the film went on to score the quickest century ever (in six days) and before rounding up its collections a little lower than the `200-crore mark. While one waits to see whether or not Akshay or Shah Rukh achieve that figure eventually, their first target would be to cross the `33-crore
mark in a day.”
The anticipation is reaching a fever pitch. Now it remains to be seen who will beat the Dabangg Khan — the Don or the Khiladi?
