Arjun looking for greener pastures

Arjun Rampal has earned a lot of praise for his sterling performance in Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti. The actor says he is humbled at the great responses, which have encouraged him to move on to newer pastures. “It has given me the confidence to experiment more with my characters, yet I take success with a pinch of salt. You should not take success seriously neither should you consider failure. Every failure brings you closer to reality and makes you come to terms with life in general,” says the National Award winner.
Arjun says that if he has survived in the industry, it is because of his passion for his work. “Despite my share of flops, I continued to perform without flinching at the hard remarks of critics or the audience. I never gave up my passion as I love my job. I hope I perform better with every film. My choice of roles have narrowed today, but I hope every director keeps his hope pinned on me so that my work speaks for me,” he adds.
The actor says that dealing with success means detaching yourself emotionally from failures. “I can do that easily. It hurts you momentarily, but being an actor I look at it in a positive manner. When people send me messages calling me by my screen names I feel humbled,” says Arjun.
Arjun likes to believe that audiences’ tastes are changing in a big way. “I started my career by doing romantic roles and then switched over to action packed films, but when I did a negative role in Om Shanti Om, the audience accepted me wholeheartedly. I was accepted for my performance in a commercial film like Housefull too. What I like about the audience today is that they know the actor is playing a character and is not scared of experimenting,” says Arjun.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
