Asin poses threat to Bebo

As Asin’s Ready crosses the `100-crore mark, her rivalry with Kareena Kapoor takes a statistical turn, because the former has now joined Bebo in the `100-crore double bill at the box office. While Kareena has 3 Idiots and Golmaal 3 to her credit, both the films happened to her at a much advanced stage in her career. But Asin, on the other hand, has managed the super-feat in her first three Bollywood films itself.
As of now, Ready looks poised to cross Golmaal 3 collections and speculations are rife regarding the possibilities of the film beating Ghajini too. An industry observer says, “Ready will make it easy to forget Asin’s last debacle London Dreams.” An ecstatic Asin, who is currently in London shooting for Housefull 2 says, “I wanted to wait for the best films to come my way, and thankfully Ready came calling. I am ecstatic at the film crossing the `100-crore mark. Who wouldn’t be?”
Incidentally, the arch-rivals seem to be sharing a lot in common. Both Bebo and Asin started their respective careers around the same time. While Kareena was first seen in Refugee (2000), Asin made her debut with a Malayalam flick in 2001. And finally, it was Aamir Khan who was the driving factor of the `100-crore success story of both the heroines. And now Asin’s Tamil blockbuster Kaavalan is being remade as Bodyguard with Kareena in the lead. So will Bebo be able to beat Asin with a third `100-crore grosser? Oh how we love big bad Bollywood battles!

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
