B’wood bags civilian honours
Her big Bollywood comeback may have gone unnoticed at most of the recent award functions, but looks like Sridevi is finally getting her due. The actress will be honoured with the fourth highest civilian award — Padma Shri for her contribution to Indian cinema.
Joining her are Sharmila Tagore and the late Rajesh Khanna who will be honoured with the Padma Bhushan.
The selection committee this year included actress Ratna Pathak Shah, scientist Anil Kakodkar and home secretary R.K. Singh, among others.
“Since these titles cannot be planned, it comes as a pleasant surprise to the actors and other people who are honoured with the title. Both Sridevi and Sharmilaji have made a vast contribution to the history of Indian cinema. And they deserve the titles,” says an industry source adding, “It is wonderful that Sharmila and her son Saif have both been awarded these prestigious civilian awards.”
