Batting against anxiety
As India readies itself for the penultimate World Cup clash on Saturday, a few Bollywood producers are fighting some anxious moments.
The makers of Game and F.A.L.T.U. who are aiming to break the dry spell at the box-office this weekend, are trying to put up a brave face, despite the bleak chances of a promising opening for their films.
“I had released Biwi No.1 at the peak of the World Cup and everyone knows how big a hit it was,” says Vashu Bhagnani, who is relaunching his son Jackky in F.A.L.T.U. “It’s a calculated move. The film is releasing after the box office lying idle for a month. I am positive about the youth stepping out and spreading the word of mouth Sunday onwards. Our’s is not a film that just earns over the weekend and then disappears. It has a long shelf-life.”
Anees Bazmee, who has directed Thank You, tries to be positive too. “I think people have had their quota of cricket in the World Cup. And also the first level matches of the IPL are not that interesting. Thank You is a family film with a lot of potential to keep it going. We are not worried,” he says.
Now it remains to be seen if they have spoken a bit too early.
